If you don't mind me asking what type of paper do you use for the DIY invites. I really want to make my own but aren't to sure if I can as I am not to crafty. Any tips if I decide to make them myself? Thanks!

Is that a general question or is it directed to me. In any case, I'll just answer it.
I used quality cardstock which I purchased at a scrapbook store. For the actual pocketfold I bought those premade. If you have any questions and want instructions on how to put them together, just pm me.

Hey babydaisy5. I used that same punch with the cute little design. It completely fell apart on the last invite. Talk about good timing.

Wow, that was timing. It would've sucked to have it quit on you with one or two left to go.

Here are mine not the funky pocket folds that some girls make, I would have so given up on those. I'm pretty proud of them and they suit the Nightmare before christmas theme. Excuse the bow in the pics I was by myself and Didn't have an extra finger to tie with LOL. I bought all the paper and the tissue paper at the Paper Place In TO, I used plain Cement card stock for the gray the Black is called Linen it's a little thicker with texture and the tissue is Japanise Tissue paper (Like a thin felt to the touch), and the ribbon is from Micheals.

Wowzers! Everyone's invitations look amazing! I almost wish mine weren't mostly done so that I could use all your creative ideas for inspiration.
I posted mine in THIS thread if anyone is interested in seeing them.
As much time and effort (and accompanying stress) went into designing and getting supplies for these, making the invitations has been my favourite part of wedding planning so far. FH and I really pleased with how they turned out and especially how they are totally "us", which we don't think we could have accomplished if we had bought them from someone else, KWIM?

We are all absolutely amazing women - you know that? We all used each other's ideas and made creative, professional-looking, budget-conscious invites that we are all so proud of! And we should be! This thread looks like a "Martha Stewart weddings" magazine with an "invites" feature!! Amazing!!
Let's all get in a line so we can pat each other on the back!!

I might as well add mine to the mix! Total cost for making them was just over $50 (and I have a ton of cardstock left over to use for other things for the wedding).
Front of pocketfold:

Back of pocketfold:

Inside of pocketfold:

Inserts and close-ups (the empty framed card will be for place cards. I also have an alternate RSVP card to mail in, for those without computer access. I forgot to take a picture of it, though!):

I'm also hoping to do my own invites and am wonder whether all of these shown (lovely by the way) are from kits (if so where did you get them) or scratch? I'm not very crafty but can follow directions! Also, did you all print on your home printers (and if so did you have aligment issues) or go to staples etc. for printing?

I second this question: - did you use kits (and where from) or is everything from scractch
Also...I'm looking for tropical themed wedding invites and when I looked in Michaels nothing really caught my eye. Is anyone else using a tropical theme and where did you find DIY invites for this?
Thanks! K

It looks like most of these invites have been made from scratch - not kits. Michaels and Staples are the only places with kits that I know of. There is so much that you can do just with cute cardstock to really make them your own. It you are into the pocketfold idea - you can make your own (we did to save $$) of purchase them online. The printing (at least for us) did have many allignment issues, but through trial and error we got it figured. It really isn't hard to DIY, it just takes time.

I did mine from scratch. i didnt use a template or anything and actually didnt buy anything from michaels...i used flash and photoshop to make the invites so "no" i didnt have an alignment issues because photshop asks you exactly how big your document is and you work with that template. i used our canon inkjet printer and had no problems...the ink didnt smudge but i didnt use vellum or anuthing; i only used super-high quality papers from the paper place and a scrapbooking store in the beaches... i hope that helps you ladies...i suggest going to a store and checking out ideas, talking to the staff; you can do it!!!!

Thanks everyone that was great!
One question: When you are writing the date and time of the reception, do most people write it out (saturday the twenty third of september at twelve o'clock) or type the numbers (Saturday 23rd, 2006 12:00pm) I say it's usually written but FH says it is the second option?

I thought writing it out looked cool, but the twenty-third doesn't look that cool as the "thirteenth"... so I am using numbers

My turn! Ours started with a kit from Staples, but the ribbon, pewter leaf charm, the vellum sleeve and the extra blank ivory cards for the guest information inserts were bought separately. Lots of work (and my more technically gifted graphic designer friend helped me fix some problems with the map) but they're finally done and gone!

Question for all you DIY girls. Where did you find your envelopes? Im wondering about the smaller reply envelopes as well as the main ones. Did the envelopes end up being a hidden cost or were they fairly affordable?
The invitations themselves don't intimidate me, its the little things that always get me in the end!!
